Yes, addictions can be harmful and totally consuming. But some addictions are beneficial.
An addiction to finding the next puzzle piece will increase your dopamine. A chemical released in the brain which improves your mood, memory, and concentration. Connecting jigsaw puzzle pieces together reinforces connections between brain cells. The more you do, the more you improve mental speed. This effectively benefits your short-term memory.
Most video games have the same effect. They improve cognitive functions, memory, problem solving, and multitasking. Playing video games keep you mentally sharp, reduces stress, and increases your creativity. Well, only if you pry yourself away can you enjoy these benefits.
These are a few of my addictions and they feel so good!
Can you identify your addictions?
